Tracy Sloan, Ph.D.

Individual and Group Psychotherapy /Specializing in Anxiety, Stress, and Panic

Hope for Recovery
Many people with extreme nervousness and anxiety suffer for years without getting any real help. Just being told to relax or that they have no reason to worry does not solve the problem. Also, many people do not want to have to use anxiety medications the rest of their lives.  Fortunately, recent research has determined that anxiety disorders can be successfully treated with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Dr. Sloan was trained in CBT at the Laboratory for the Study of Anxiety Disorders at the University of Texas at Austin. Now she is making this treatment available in the San Antonio area.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Techniques for Treating
   Anxiety Disorders

  • overcoming negative thought patterns
  • identifying stressors
  • challenging self defeating thoughts
  • learning relaxation techniques
  • finding coping strategies that work for you
  • exposure to feared situations and sensations

This evidence based treatment effectively reduces symptoms
  and increases quality of life.
In studies comparing the efficacy of CBT and
pharmacological therapy for panic disorder, both have been shown to be effective. The addition
of CBT, though, may lead to greater protection against relapse, and enhance self confidence.

CBT can also benefit individuals who do not respond to medication, can not tolerate a
therapeutic dose, and those who eventually want to discontinue reliance on medication.
